- Is there a way to configure a modem so that it makes a connection very
- rapidly? Right now, it takes a long time (about 25.5 seconds) to form a
- ppp link between my SupraExpress 288 PnP external modem and a 28.8
- Multitech modem. Now a lot of that time is taken up by the software on
- the two machines and by the telephone company. But I'm interested in
- finding ways to reduce the time spent by the modems.
-
- More than one second is spent waiting for the dial tone. Is there a
- way to reduce that? The dial tone is present practically instantly.
- I tried using blind dialing, but that has a minimum 2 second delay, as
- far as I could tell.
-
- The default dialing rate is rather slow. I configured s11 to 50 ms, and
- that sped up the dialing phase a lot.
-
- The remote modem is set to answer on the first ring. But is it possible to
- tell a modem to answer at the onset of the ring, rather than after the
- ring?
-
- The modems spend a lot of time (about 10 seconds) negotiating with each
- other. Can this time be reduced?
-
- Any ideas?
